Listening Session on Church, State, and Civic Engagement hosted by Synod VP Dr Phyllis Johnson The ELCA is working on developing a social statement on civics and faith, as directed by the 2019 Churchwide Assembly. The social statement will be submitted to the 2025 Churchwide Assembly for its approval. As part of the process, the ELCA Task Force on Church, State, and Civic Engagement has made it a priority to hear from people throughout our entire church. Phyllis Johnson, the Vice President of the Eastern ND Synod, is a member of the Task Force and will facilitate this Listening Session. This is an important opportunity for the task force to hear concerns, suggestions, and ideas for study. This will be an open-ended session that will give you a chance to share your thoughts with the task force. No one’s name or identifying information will be included in the notes that will be shared with the task force. Please come and share your ideas about what should—and should not—be in this social statement.
