A second wave of congregations have just begun the Re-Rooting in God’s Mission process. On Saturday, February 25, 2012 fifty-two congregational leaders representing the teams from nine congregations (six from the Eastern North Dakota Synod and three from the Northwestern Minnesota Synod) gathered at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo to begin the 18-24 month missional spiritual discovery journey with their congregations and each other. The Women for Christ of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Central African Republic held their national conference in Carnot, CAR, from February 21–26, 2012. The presentations were well-received by the delegates, who numbered some 250 women from all parts of CAR, along with the six American women who represented the U.S. partners of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the CAR. People seeking to fill our emptiness appear on our TV screens as networks report this “news.” Gordon Gekko, the infamous Wall Street film character, summed up this mentality which comes so easily – “greed is good.” This is not news, novel or new. Just nine months after a fire destroyed the Zion Lutheran Church in Oriska, North Dakota, the congregation finally has a place to call their own. The church pulled together, with the help of people all over the valley, and are now moving forward in their faith and sense of community.
For some, it’s easier to sleep in on a Sunday morning that go to church. But in Oriska, the pews were packed.
Zion Luther Church Pastor, Dan Faust, says, “It’s thrilling! It’s thrilling! Thanks to God that it didn’t destroy the congregation.” Continue reading…
