The Cando Area Food Pantry (CAFP) was recently awarded Agency of the Year by Great Plains Food Bank. Rev. Bonnie Weaver, president of the board for CAFP, is pastor at Cando Lutheran, Cando and Bisbee Lutheran, Bisbee. CAFP is housed in Cando Lutheran Church, although not part of the church. It is the only food pantry in Towner County and the closest one for many who live in the neighboring counties.
A core group of 6 volunteers serve over 100 families with food resource needs each year. The pantry is constantly working to reach out in new ways. CAFP was the original catalyst for a new food pantry in Dunseith that Rev. John Hesford works with, encouraging them to serve the hungry intheir area and supplying them with their first several trunk loads of food. People were traveling from Dunseith to Cando to get food – almost 65 miles.
