Mayville and Gran Lutheran Churches Challenged to go the “Extra Mile”
The Mayville Lutheran Foundation voted to match contributions that members of Mayville and Gran Lutheran Churches (external link) give to the “Extra Mile” at the rate of $1 for every $4 given. When individuals reach their goal of $72 (above & beyond regular giving), the Mayville Lutheran Foundation will give an additional $18 (an extra lap around the track) for a total of $90. If 140 members gave $72 and the Foundation gave $18, the total (140 X $90) would equal $12,600—more than enough for a church roof and a motorcycle for the C.A.R. That would be a marvelous accomplishment!
Paul’s words from Philippians 3 “…but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Lutheran Disaster Response named “Member Organization of the Year”
The National Voluntary organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) (external link) named Lutheran Disaster Response (external link) the 2010 Member Organization of the Year. LDR is a collaborative ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Founded in 1970, VOAD is a coalition of non-profit organizations that respond to disasters and/or develop disaster preparedness and recovery programs. “This award is in recognition of all Lutherans who love and serve their neighbors affected by disaster and also recognizes the more than 20 year history of Lutherans helping serve in communities from Grand Forks, ND to New Orleans and in countless other places. We are all LDR because we all chip in and care for our neighbors when we see our neighbors experience any misfortune,” said Rev. Kevin Massey, director or LDR and ELCA Domestic Disaster Response.
