How do you debscribe yourself theologically?
A forgiven, free, and beloved child of God; a saint and sinner like everyone else, a disciple of Jesus Christ. I believe I am fairly conservative in how I think of God and the church; a traditional Lutheran with accompanying guilt, some level of pietism and most certainly respect for Word and Sacrament ministry.
What gifts do you believe you would bring to the office of the bishop in the Eastern North Dakota Synod?
A joy in serving, a sincerity in faith, a compassionate concern for those whom God loves, which is everybody.
What is your concept of the primary roles of a synodical bishop in the Eastern North Dakota Synod?
The traditional answer would be to be a pastor for and with the pastors and other rostered leaders in the Synod and to be a source of support for congregations, but on a broader scale, it would be to be a leader in proclaiming and living out the gospel of Jesus Christ beginning in partnership with everyone in the expression of the church we call the Synod, and extending out to the world around us.
What are the key skills required of the bishop in the Eastern North Dakota Synod?
An ability to listen, a desire to serve, a willingness to pray, and a boldness to share the faith.
How do you practice care of other and yourself?
I enjoy reading, golfing, playing basketball, and traveling whenever I have the opportunity. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my family. I would encourage everybody to practice a healthy balance of work, service, and time for play.
